The first of 89 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines has been erected at the freshwater Windpark Fryslân in the Netherlands. The 383MW project is located on the IJsselmeer lake and is being developed by Ventolines.

The wind farm is expected to be operational this summer, when it will account for more than 70% of the Province of Friesland’s 2020 renewable energy target of 530MW. Each SWT-DD-130 wind turbine has a rotor diameter of 130 metres.

Onshore cabling work was completed earlier this month with the 55km, 110kV underground wires running alongside the A7 motorway to connect to the Oudehaske HV substation near Heerenveen.
