Floating Wind knowledge exchange Taiwan/NL

In the development of offshore wind farms at sea, the vast majority of the wind turbines are now placed on so-called monopiles. Monopiles are large tubes that are driven into the seabed. This is possible as long as the water is not too deep. These are usually the locations close to the coast.

The best wind locations are further offshore where the waters are much more  deeper. Floating offshore wind farms are therefore a good solution for the new offshore wind farms further out on the sea.

Floating Offshore Wind as a technology is still in full development, but is already being used commercially in some places in the world. Many countries are developing plans for floating offshore wind and many companies are developing floating wind solutions. The Netherlands already has a good supply chain in the field of floating offshore wind.

One of the countries where floating offshore wind is explicitly being looked at is Taiwan. Speakers from the Dutch and Taiwanese side spoke during the webinar. On behalf of the Netherlands, a presentation was given by Holland Home of Wind Energy (HHWE), Mammoet, Boskalis and GustoMSC/NOV.

About 100 participants from both countries took part in this event, which was organized by HHWE and the Netherlands Office in Taipei (NLOT) as part of the PIB Offshore Wind Taiwan.
